Federal Commission for Women's Issues FCWI

The Federal Commission for Women's Issues has been advising the federal government on gender equality issues since 1976. As an independent, nonpartisan body, it monitors developments, issues recommendations, and connects stakeholders from politics, civil society, and academia. Through analyses, statements, and projects, it promotes gender equality and raises awareness of its work.

CEDAW Convention

The CEDAW Convention protects women around the world from discrimination. The FCWI oversees its implementation in Switzerland and drafts statements to the CEDAW Committee. Its Practice Guide provides expert knowledge for legal practice.

Istanbul Convention

The Istanbul Convention obliges Switzerland to prevent violence against women and to protect victims. The FCWI is committed to ensuring that the 2022-2026 national action plan is implemented effectively.

Strategic guidelines and mandate

The FCWI advises the Confederation on gender equality issues. It analyses social trends, develops recommendations, and encourages the dialogue between politics, the public administration and civil society. The commission sets its own strategic priorities for each legislative period.
