Strategic guidelines and mandate
The FCWI advises the Confederation on gender equality issues. It analyses social trends, develops recommendations, and encourages the dialogue between politics, the public administration and civil society. The commission sets its own strategic priorities for each legislative period.
The FCWI’s task and role
The FCWI is the Confederation’s advisory body on gender equality issues in Switzerland. It has been monitoring and analysing the situation of women and providing expertise since 1976. It brings together key stakeholders from civil society, academia and politics and complements the work of the Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE).
Strategic guidelines
At its retreat in May 2024, the FCWI established its strategic guidelines and priorities. They form the basis of the commission’s focus for the 2024-2027 legislative period.

Mandate
The FCWI is an independent body, able to build bridges between politics, the public administration and civil society. It promotes cooperation between public authorities, non-governmental organisations and international bodies.
Thanks to its diverse composition, the commission is a space for dialogue between women’s and gender equality associations, social partners and academia. It collaborates with numerous partners such as public administrations, human rights organisations as well as representatives from politics and research.
